Sand Glasses

Sandglasses were used to measure time. We make models which measure 14 second, 28 second, 30 and 60 minute time periods. The 14 and 28 second glasses were used with the chip log to measure ship's speed. The 30 minute glass was used to measure shipboard watches.

This 28 second glass made from wonderful mahogany which was originally part of the U.S.S. Constitution.

Sand Glasses were used from the 15th through the 19th century.
